Chapter 1: The Moon

The placement of the Moon in your birth chart is very significant from a karmic perspective, as it indicates the accumulated karmic tendencies, both positive and negative, that you carry from your past incarnated experiences on earth.

While the Sun reveals your intended purposes and lessons for this present life cycle, the MOON represents what you have already done and developed, hence, what is instinctive and natural to you, and what you tend to do over and over again. Your childhood is also reflected in the Moon's placement, as it is through those childhood circumstances that any unresolved past-life issues are re-stimulated. Your subconscious predisposition is indicated by the Moon's position. It is the psychic imprint of the past. The nodes of the Moon describe behavior patterns from the past, as well as delineating a direction out of outworn or overdone behaviors and habits.

Moon in Virgo:

You instinctively react to challenges or stress by dissecting and analyzing the problem (often obsessively), and you can be a compulsive worrier. You tend to feel that it is your responsibility to fix things, and blame yourself when things go awry. Also, you may respond by staying busy, busy, busy, throwing yourself into your work, cleaning, straightening, or putting things in order. Domestic chores in particular seem to soothe you, as you need tidiness and order in your surroundings to feel at ease internally, and you have a deeply ingrained need to be useful. You often feel guilty when you are not being productive or making a contribution. Conversely, you feel a lot of emotional satisfaction when you are accomplishing practical tasks, and especially when you are helping others in a real, concrete way. You enjoy being needed and taking care of people, "doing for others".

Although you find giving very rewarding, you may also have been taught to deny yourself for others' sake, and you can be something of a martyr or a workaholic. If you find yourself giving but secretly resenting or criticizing others (the recipients of your "service"), you probably should re-examine the balance of giving and receiving in your life. In your incarnational past you devoted your life to serving other people (either in a religious order or, quite literally, as a servant), and you were strongly influenced by the puritan work/guilt ethic. This now makes it hard for you to relax and enjoy yourself, or to do for yourself, or you have a subconscious prohibition against it. You may feel disapproving and holier-than-thou when you see other people being or playing in a frivolous, extravagant way (when they "should be" working). You can be self-righteous but at the same time you are quite humble. Self-doubt and a definite tendency to underestimate your worth or importance are apt to be deeply-rooted habits.

You need to learn to be less exacting and perfectionistic toward yourself (and, as a result, others around you). If you release your negative tendency in this regard, your body will be healthier as well. In your home and in your closest relationships, try to be less concerned with tidiness, efficiency, or doing it "the right way", and more with accepting and empathizing. Strive for "good enough" rather than faultless. Learn to look for the positive elements of a situation or person, rather than what needs improvement. You were taught to be grateful for what you have been given, but not to ask for or expect much. Try to take that kernel of gratitude and expand upon it in finding as many things as possible to praise and be genuinely glad of. Simplicity may well be your innate preference, but it need not be joyless austerity.

(Another series of past lifetimes which may presently influence you involved being a doctor, nurse, or healer. This carries over as a strong interest in health, the science of nutrition and natural methods of healing, or choosing medicine or another of the helping professions as a career. You may be very particular about food, as a "health fanatic". As with many things, you tend to be a bit compulsive about it. However, providing wholesome, nutritious meals is one way you nourish yourself and the people you care for. Baking your own bread may be especially satisfying and therapeutic for you).

North Node in Leo:

In your incarntional past, the needs of the group or collective took precedence over your individual wants and needs, and while you perhaps enjoyed the sense of belonging and comradery, your individuality was submerged. Your growth direction now is to become a strong individual in your own right, developing your own creative talents and abilities.

North Node in 1st house:

When in close partnership with others you tend to fall back into the old patterns. Your partner or partners in life may pull you back into that old way of being.

Moon Conjunct Uranus:

In your incarnational past, while there may have been long periods of contentment and tranquility, there was also a time of great upheaval which forced you to turn your back on the security and way of life you once knew. Your home life may have been disrupted, and your inner sense of who "family" is, radically changed. It is possible that you were involved in revolutionary activities, or were in a profession that was considered unorthodox or even heretical by the authorities of the day, and your fellow "radicals" or sympathizers become your true family.

All of this may affect you in the present in a number of subtle ways: a deep-seated restlessness or desire to break away totally from your past, a feeling that the rug could be pulled out from under you at any moment, emotional impulsiveness, a craving for newness and excitement for which you are willing to forego security or an orderly existence.

It is important for you to try to embody the ideals and unusual interests and inclinations you have, without "throwing the baby out with the bath water"!

Moon Conjunct Pluto:

Powerful subconscious forces and emotional drives, based on the imprint of past experiences, are very much active in your current life-experience. You now have an opportunity to bring these unresolved issues to light and to purge yourself of emotional and psychic garbage which may have lain dormant for lifetimes. In truth you will not be able to avoid this process. Your relationship to your mother, your children, or other key women in your life are most likely to trigger these deeply imbedded patterns. You may have very intense emotional attachments with strong feelings of jealousy and/or fears of loss and betrayal which stem from earlier losses. You may have faced the death of someone close to you at an early age, for instance. For this reason also you are particularly susceptible to emotional blackmail and manipulation through guilt or threats of abandonment (or be prone to employing such methods yourself when feeling threatened).

Subliminal fears of being dominated or overpowered or of misusing your own power may be a potent (though consciously unacknowledged) influence in your life. Power fascinates you, yet you have seen the dark side of it and are thus repelled by it as well. A deep lack of trust and the drive to survive at all costs accompanies this. You are capable of a certain ruthlessness which may not be readily apparent on the surface. In fact, you may surprise yourself, especially in crisis situations.

Unexamined, these types of hidden fears or unhealed traumas may make you inclined to become obsessive or to act in ways that are not in your best interest. You may find yourself reacting very vehemently and quite out of proportion to present circumstances.

However, if you cooperate with the emotional transformation and catharsis which you will periodically go through in this lifetime, you can experience a profound rebirth within yourself.

During phases of emotional upheaval in your life, beware of blaming other people or outside circumstances; instead, seek the causes within yourself. At such times you might wish to consider wearing certain stones (or having them around you) in order to facilitate the cleansing and releasing process: amethyst, malachite, opals, or fire agates may be of some assistance.

Chapter 2: The Sun

The Sun in your birth chart represents the primary creative thrust for this lifetime, those qualities you are to develop (or further develop) and express, and your current life focus. This may be in harmony with your instincts and your emotional habits, or along completely different lines. The Sun represents your conscious identity in this lifetime.

Sun in Scorpio:

For you, this lifetime revolves upon the theme of experiencing your emotional depths, and penetrating the surface of life to explore the hidden, dark, secret or taboo. What lurks in the shadows or in the inner depths of the human soul is what concerns you, and it is your task to become aware of and express what you find hidden there. What society at large may fear or repress, you are fascinated with and drawn to experience and understand. This may include both a fear of and absorption with death and the mysterious side of life, delving into the politics of sexuality and power and experiencing strong, "dark" emotions such as passion, jealousy, revenge, or a desire for control. At times you may feel like a misfit, that your yearnings, desires, and true inclinations are somehow wrong or bad, or even that you are bad. You could take on a social persona which is dark and hints at something sinister (such as always wearing black, going out only at night...). However, your feeling for the dark undercurrents of life and your drive to experience life passionately and intensely, without avoiding any of it, may be expressed less overtly.

You are attracted to crisis, those transition times in life when people are tested, when their social masks do not matter anymore, and the true person is revealed. You may feel most alive and most yourself in life and death situations, whether you are involved in saving lives (as a doctor or healer), in destroying them (as in war), or simply by seeking out dangerous situations and dangerous companions. Often you will create your own crisis (especially in the arena of your close personal relationships) in order to pit yourself against the challenge. Other people may view this as a self-destructive urge in you, a masochistic (or sadistic) streak. The truth is you would rather feel pain, than to feel nothing at all. You want to be fully immersed in it, deeply and passionately involved. (Life for you is not a spectator sport).

You have great compassion and sympathetic feelings for those suffering or in pain, whether physical or emotional, for you are no stranger to it yourself. You may feel scornful of those people who appear to glide through life, never experiencing any real tragedy or pain, or plumbing their own depths. In love, it is the possibility of loss or betrayal that intensifies the experience for you. Put simply, you do not accept anything at face value, you instinctively know that there is a dark underside for every light surface. Understanding this shadowy side is a key to fulfilling your life purpose.

Personal relationships may be an obsession of yours, the arena where your passion and drive for intense closeness and emotional union expresses itself fully. However, trust, vulnerability, and relinquishing control are not easy for you. Because of this, and because you have a great capacity and need for emotional intensity (which not everyone can match) your human relationships are frequently not smooth. You go to extremes. With you it is usually all or nothing, whether you choose total celibacy or complete immersion and involvement. A really loving intimate relationship can be tremendously healing for you also, especially if you allow your partner to see who you really are, including those aspects of yourself you usually hide and consider ugly and unacceptable. Being unconditionally accepted by another may be the first step toward embracing your own "darkness", which will be a lifelong lesson for you. The fairy tale perhaps most relevant to this task is "Beauty and the Beast". Rather than rejecting your beastliness (your negativity, fear, or not-beautiful emotions or impulses) you must learn to look at and lovingly accept them, thus, transforming yourself. Ultimately it is those who have struggled with and come to terms with their darkness who are able to bring light, understanding and healing to others who suffer, and this is part of your life's purpose.

Sun conjunct Mercury in Scorpio:

Your ability to blend your intellect and reasoning power with your intuition enables you to instinctively understand other people and their life situations. You have a gift for drawing out others, eliciting and listening to their stories, even though you yourself maybe shy. You could be a great story-teller as you possess a keen eye and ear for the poetic, literary, and artistic. You will be happiest when you are using some blending of mind and emotions or thought and instinct in a creative way. The use of your hands to fashion, fix or create things is very satisfying also.

Chapter 3: Rising Sign

The point that was on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth is called the ASCENDANT, or rising sign. While the Sun describes your conscious direction and current life focus, and the Moon your subconscious predisposition and past, the Ascendant indicates a way of being that transcends and embraces past, present, and future. It describes the way you engage and merge with the outer world and how you bring through into life the energies depicted by the Sun, the Moon, and the rest of your birth chart. Everything is filtered through the Ascendant from an esoteric point of view. It indicates your soul's function and thus a key part of your destiny.

Cancer Rising:

Whether you are male or female, you carry the qualities of and in some way embody the archetype of the mother. You will find that you attract people who need care, understanding and encouragement. Devotion and maintaining emotional soul-connections to life is the heart of your approach to living. You are very sympathetic in both the sense that you feel for others and also in the sense of "sympathetic resonance". Your own feelings and moods will often reflect the dominant feeling tone in your environment. You absorb the atmosphere around you and thrive in surroundings that are home-like, personal, supportive, and cooperative.

When out of balance you are hypersensitive to hurts and slights, are prone to extreme moodiness, worry, and self-pity, and/or feel like an insatiable needy child yourself. Self-nurturing and self-responsibility are thus extremely important for you to develop in order to bring out your best.

Your ruling planet is the Moon. You probably felt a strong identification with the description of your Moon's placement as you read the first section. This is because in your case the Moon not only reflects something about your past and inherited tendencies, but also colors your entire way of relating to the world now. It describes an important aspect of your soul's function.

Cancer Rising and Moon in Virgo:

Your Moon in Virgo suggests that your caring is channeled into practical service, nursing, attending to the immediate practical or physical needs of people. You are sensitive and devoted, but perhaps not very demonstrative in ways that others recognize as tenderness or love. Serving families, mothers, or children in some way is an important way for you to fulfill your soul function.

Chapter 4: Saturn, Your Achilles Heel

Karmically considered, the placement of Saturn in your birth chart indicates where your energetic blockages, weaknesses and fears lie, and the areas of your life where the most concentrated effort and discipline will be required to master and overcome them. Yet it also points to the aspects of life which can become your greatest strength if you are willing to face your fears and difficulties honestly, and work with them patiently.

Saturn in Aquarius

Your particular struggle has two faces. First, you can feel alienated from the mainstream of society, unable to comfortably be a part of things or to participate socially, disaffected and oppressed by society's rules or the prevailing order of things in the world. A harsh social critic, you may feel like the lone-wolf, both longing for and refusing acceptance, inclusion and approval from "the group". Your innate distrust of groups or crowds may prevent you from joining in activities you would actually enjoy. Depending on other factors in your chart, you are apt to feel either painfully isolated, or simply aloof. You have an acute social conscience and are prone to feel personally guilty for the collective's mistakes, or to try to instill guilt in others for the same. One negative tendency you also have is to blame all of your own problems on the ills of society, the corruption in the government, "Big Brother", etc. You tend to focus on the gloomiest aspect of the world scene, and to fear the worst.

The other side of the coin is a tendency to stifle your uniqueness in order to fit in. Being acceptable and conforming may become overly important to you, so much so that you intensely dislike anyone who deviates from convention or is "weird" in any way. If you find that this is the case, know that you are actually fighting an aspect of your own inner self. You could also become a "joiner", overly identified with social causes to the neglect or determent of your other personal interests or relations.

Saturn in 7th house:

The whole arena of marriage, cooperative partnership and committed one-to-one relationships is where you meet some of your most frustrating and difficult challenges and also where there is great potential for soul growth.

There may be a long delay of marriage, either by choice or simply because you never encounter "the right one". Or, you may marry or form partnerships with people who cannot be fully available to you or meet your emotional needs. You may marry out of a sense of duty, obligation, proper form, or for security instead of joy. Often there is a karmic marriage (or a series of them) in which you seem to bring out the worst in one another. Actually, this may be the basis of your avoidance of marriage: the unconscious awareness that once you commit yourself, you will have to confront your own personal demons, weaknesses, flaws, and fears. Thus, there is a sense of heaviness in your heart and mind around marriage or commitment.

In any of your close partnerships the "other" will reflect back to you your own inadequacies. If you are willing to become more conscious and to claim your own problems instead of blaming the other person, you will heal and become more whole through your marriage or other committed relationships. If you are not willing to go any deeper than "this person is not making me happy", loneliness and dissatisfaction are apt to be ongoing. This is not to say that you should martyr yourself upon the altar of marriage or stay in an abusive or painful situation, simply that "for better or for worse" will entail, for you, a good bit of both.

Saturn Quincunx Uranus:

You carry tremendous inner tension which you will have to work to resolve and harmonize in order to have any peace in your life or any ongoing success in either your personal relationships or your life ambitions. You have what some would call a "disobedient spirit": habitual and chronic irritability and rebelliousness, a refusal to accept or cooperate with any kind of outward authority, and perhaps most troublesome of all, a tendency to blame others(the government, the system, your parents, your ex-) for your discontent. Because you tend to resent any kind of restrictions or limitations (including those imposed simply by living a "normal" orderly existence), you may periodically revolt, and any sort of stability, security, or seniority you may have acquired is badly damaged or destroyed. Or, your inner stress may be expressed in physical symptoms such as grinding your teeth, TMJ, headaches, or imbalances caused by disrupted rhythms. Your karmic pattern is to operate out of an extreme, polarized, all-or-nothing position. You may believe you must either conform and be an automaton or totally disregard convention, tradition, and the old order. On the other hand, you may identify entirely with the established orthodoxy and feel you must repress any impulses toward change or unconventionality, that it is somehow dangerous to experiment or deviate in any way. You may see-saw between these two extremes. Transitions tend to be especially difficult for you. You do not want to let go AND you want to sever your ties entirely. To begin harmonizing these patterns and healing your life, decide first of all to stop blaming others or the way the world is for your discomfort. Make friends with "the enemy", those parts of life you have been polarized against. On a physical level, regular, rhythmic exercise such as bicycling or swimming, and receiving massage therapy to release emotional and muscular tension can be helpful.

Chapter 5: The Hard Aspects

The following is a description of your MAJOR LIFE CHALLENGES, both in terms of energies you are to learn to develop and express in a positive way, and those which are the result of struggles and unresolved karmic issues which you have brought into this life.

Venus is Retrograde:

You have had a prior lifetime or lifetimes in which your love was unrequited or lost or somehow denied expression and fulfillment due to circumstances, and this both intensifies and complicates your personal affections in the present. You may feel there is "never enough" which can lead to greediness for friends or lovers, or even for money or food. On the other hand, you may withhold affection, be unable to attract true affection, or withhold commitment in love due to the shame or hurt you had. A new feeling toward love and relationship can evolve as you learn to trust yourself and let intimacy into your life.

Venus Square Mars:

In this lifetime the erotic impulses of human love, desire, and sexual relationships are a highly charged focus of your attention. Expressing your sexual energies and personal magnetic attractiveness in ways that are loving and respectful or at least not harmful to yourself and others will be one of your issues. Dominating others through your sexuality or allowing yourself to be dominated in this way is also a theme. Dissonance or turbulence in intimate relationships, especially over differences in sexual drives or needs, must be handled with care. Expressing your passion in ways that are compatible with your own values and sense of beauty is the key here.

On another level, balancing and integrating masculine and feminine energies within yourself is the challenge. Carrying or wearing watermelon tourmaline can be quite useful along these lines.

Mars Square Neptune:

Your masculine, yang, assertive energies combine (somewhat tensely and uneasily) with your urge for transcendence, grandeur, and a life beyond the every day or material. This could be expressed through you in various ways. At best you are an inspired creative genius with the drive and need to physically manifest your dreams and visions. (This may, nevertheless, be hard on those around you or the part of you that wants a normal, orderly existence, as you tend to become fanatical and to ignore the more mundane stuff).

You may have a great deal of fantasy about and infatuation with masculinity, male power, which can lead to feelings of personal inadequacy, sexual confusion, an overidentification with macho strengths and values, muscles, competition, or simply an unclear relationship with men. You may idealize the man (father, husband, son) and fail to perceive them accurately. You tend to go to extremes, either denying all male attributes, functions or values, or secretly worshipping them.

You may also have great aspirations and far reaching ambitions which may or may not be practically realizable. However, for you, to live is to dream. Strive for complete honesty, with yourself as well as others, because the downside of this pattern is a tendency to evade or deceive or simply ignore what is. Also avoid the tendency to use either your physical strength or your sexual power and charisma in an exaggerated way. Misdirection of these energies can weaken your vitality considerably.

Ultimately you may be led to devote your strength and all your actions to something that transcends personal gratification and personal desire, becoming a channel for a higher power to work through.

Jupiter Opposition Uranus:

Part of what your present incarnation is about is being an instrument through which the "new" is given birth into the world. You carry dreams of broad social and political change and/or a spiritual awakening in the collective. Through your choices, beliefs and actions, as well as your very way of being, you encourage these positive changes in the world around you. Still, from time to time, you are apt to have difficulties with those who are invested in maintaining control, stability, order, convention, or the status quo. Individualistic freedom is very important to you. You can not or will not fit in to any formalized or closed system, be it the church, academia, or any other group you consider rigid. Over enthusiastic zeal can also work against you at times.

Chapter 6: Soft Aspects

The following is a description of your GIFTS and STRENGTHS which can help you work with your major life challenges. These are abilities and qualities of heart, mind, and soul which are quite natural to you. You probably take them for granted. Because these represent the lines of least resistance for you, you may rely too much upon them at times; hence, there are some cautions suggested. Still, these are the areas where good flows into your life and/or where you have considerable inner resources.

Venus Conjunct Neptune:

You are highly sensitive and receptive to beauty. You love art, beautiful music, harmony, and love in all its forms. You have delicate feelings and intuitively understand others through compassion. Thus, you naturally want to help, to give, to alleviate suffering where you can, and not just for people, but for all creatures. Your love naturally is inclusive, all embracing and unconditional. This pattern in you bespeaks of considerable spiritual evolvement and refinement. You are one who can walk and talk with the angels. Perhaps the only drawback here is that you are easily bruised, and it is difficult for you to endure harshness, prolonged conflict, and other "earthly" conditions.

Neptune Sextile Pluto:

Collectively, this is a time in history that enables you and those of your generation to advance spiritually through a heightened awareness of the invisible and intangible realms. A rebirth of spirituality through direct contact with higher forces is occurring in this generation. This contact takes many, many forms, including a compelling interest in life beyond death. You may or may not have a personal involvement with this, as it is a group karma rather than a primarily personal one.
